Fisker Recalls Over 12,000 Ocean Vehicles Due to Door Handle Issue
Electric-vehicle company Fisker is recalling more than 12,000 Ocean vehicles to address a problem with exterior door handles sticking and failing to open. This marks the third recall for Fisker this month, as the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has four open investigations into various issues related to the Ocean SUV.
Fisker, once a high-flying EV startup, recently filed for bankruptcy protection after facing financial difficulties. The faulty door handles pose a safety risk, as they could prevent occupants from exiting the vehicle in an emergency.
The company is replacing the faulty door handles free of charge and has instructed its dealers in the United States, Canada, and Europe to halt sales of the Ocean vehicles in inventory for inspection. In total, 12,523 units are being recalled, with customers reporting issues with the key fob not unlocking the car and doors failing to open.
This recent recall adds to Fisker's challenges, as the company previously recalled thousands of cars for software issues and safety standard non-compliance. Henrik Fisker, the renowned car designer behind the brand, has experienced bankruptcy protection with his previous venture, Fisker Automotive, in 2013.
